Spiritueuse Double Vanille by Guerlain
is a rich vanilla shaped by rum, incense, spices, and woods. The sweetness feels more like vanilla extract and aged wood than frosting or baked goods.
Bergamot and pink pepper add a little brightness at the opening before rum and incense bring in a darker, slightly smoky quality. Jasmine, rose, and ylang-ylang soften the fragrance without turning it into a floral perfume, while cedar gives the sweetness a dry, woody edge.
The vanilla here is deep rather than sugary. Benzoin adds a soft amber warmth, while rum, incense, and cedar bring a smoky, woody quality. Vanilla remains at the center, but there is enough contrast to keep the sweetness from feeling simple.
